I wan't to be a PM!

I remember winning an essay competition in school on "What you would do if you become a PM?". When i look back the topic seems so funny, yet it has instilled certain thought process on what are things that needs attention and has to be improved. However with the 15th Loksabha elections underway it seems like there are way too many people who wants to be the PM yet not knowing whats the importance of this honour of being the PM of a vibrant democratic country. The congress has fielded the best candidate who time and again has proved the world he is best for the job, and the BJP has the candidate who has been waiting for quite a considerable time, However with the Third and Foruth Front emerging who seem to have too many backs without any proper and everybody claims to be a PM candidate. Starting from DeveGowda, Mayawati Ji, Chandrababu (If his "Mahakootami" which seems to make all kinds of noise wins a considerable LS seats) , Amma, Sharad Pawar and now to add this List Mr Lalu, i wonder why the left brigade's the Karat's and yechuri's 'aren't thinking to be in the race so that they can make thinks progress backwards in the coming times. Probably the first time in the history where we get to hear so many names and wonder if the inspiraration is "Obama" or the hunger for "Power". Are these third, fourth, fifth front candidates worth to lead the nation? Do they have any sense of purpose in filling the candidature? Have they contemplated on what are the reforms they are going to bring in if they become PM rather just thinking to be a PM? What is the ultimate objective behind aspring for such a post? This is not an essay writing stuff where everybody want's to be a PM(even that had what would you do if you are a PM) instead they should think do they fit the bill or what they are going to do if they are going to be a PM. Just because the policitcal parties can play some foul games of post poll alliances everybody is aspiring for that, but we have seen in the past how well they can justify their job or atleast for how long can they withhold the job? For all we know all they would list 10 backs with all the fronts and lead the nation 6 months each and may be transfer another 50K Crores to their swiss bank accounts, No wonder every a$$ wants to be a PM in the era of a Coalition Politics...

To Vote or Not To Vote?

That seems to be the flavour of the season. Where the entire media fraternity, organizations are pushing big time to exercise the Adult Franchise. A very focused effort to ensure the youth too gives their mandate. Though not many countries in the South Asia have this flexibility where the people of the country can decide the fate of the government, But is it enough to come out on the D-Day vote for the nation. Is it Ok to be irresponsible don't care about small things like jumping signals, driving on footpaths, no respect to pedestrians, litter left right center, don't care about the amount of plastic consumption, vandalize public properties, participation in riots, be influenced by communal speeches and the list goes on and on. As one of the taxi driver said "we don't want to change ourselves but would want to change the world" and i second his thought as majority of us are self centered, since the offices have declared a holiday we will go and cast the vote on the election day and wash of the ink and don't be bothered about some things for which we need to change and yet criticise the system doesn't take care of it. However am happy to be part of the conscious movement to encourage peoples participation to build a democratic nation, but how well are we palced to make an informed judgement on whom to cast the vote for? May be we should depend on the journalism to make this decision? But are they really helping us to make a choice? Most of the debates over the last couple of months on this whole election thing seems to devoted more towards who is going to win the election rather than what is "Agenda" going to be to win an election? Most of this Agenda is restricted to the manifestos the details of which hardly reaches out to everybody and do we have a debate on this manifesto? Not really. Are we sure the parties craving for power have devoted enough thought on how they are going to improve the economy? What is going to be the focus on Agriculture? Measures to Improve the health sector? What about the Action plan on Infrastructure and education ? How are they going to curb corruption? Did we ever hear about the parties debating on how they are actually going do deliver this? The media fraternity and other stake holders who facilitate us in making a good decision to choose a particular candidate or particular party are more concerned about a person making a communal speech and how he is going to polarise the vote bank and make him a hero, show him over and over again, not ready to move over the sikh riots and the godhra issue and parties blaming each other than having better discussions/debates on the real issues. In a nation where the media predominant focuses are on a sporting carnival taking centre stage against election, displaying the crorepati neta's assets than his calibre as a candidate, debating whether Baba Ramdev is mixing spiritualiy with politics, dicussing what is the post-poll alliances going to be, running innumerbale campaigns to VOTE is never going to help the commonS to take an informed decision. Sometimes i wonder what is rational behind this whole Vote Campaigns of the media, Is it just to tinker their minds to come out and vote and always leaving this question mark on whom to vote for? Or its just another business in this captilistic world always interested in how to increase the TRP's than influencing the people at large to take a healthy decision. What ever might be the case i have chosen not to abstain from voting and with the basic research i have done on the candidates contesting in my constieuncy i have boiled down on whom to vote for, it matters the end game or not and can be only hopeful that we have more impartial and sensible channels to help millions like me to take decision which allows the nation to progress forward only.

Gadgets Change Habits?

One of my recent travels to "Changi" Airport i saw this gentlemen using his black berry with both his hands, seemed to be very focused , Of all probability he might be saving his A$$ with the whole recession thing. But the bizarre part was he was in the urinal leaving the "P"da in his hands and "P" ing, and not sure where all the traces of "P" s left. On an another occasion i have seen best pals communicating over the face book as they don't have time to catch up though they seem to live very next door. How many times would we have clicked the "Get Mail" on thunderbird in a day or twittered every second or Checked your "Text Messages" every odd minute or answered every phone call though you were in the midst of a serious conversation leaving it there and later asking where were we?. As technology advances we tend to adapt them in every aspect of our daily life so much they become part of your life. Now how much of this adaption is good for us? Do they really hamper the productivity at work? Do they affect our life style? Do they change our Habits is some thing to contemplated...Probably technology should only be a part of our life but not the other way round.

Welcome to World of Credit Crisis

This is good visual to explain the whole credit crisis funda. When everybody knew something bad like this could happen why couldn't so called Wall Street Intellectuals stop this in first place? Is it the greed that took everything over? End of the day people who had to make money had made money and its the oppressed class which is bearing this crisis always wondering what kind of bomb is going to explode next?

Slang bang..

can LAH.??. Eh, don't be like dat lah : A common Singaporean slang where invariably they use the lah in every sentence they speak. Though there are many more Singlish Words like accuse me which means excuse me, no nid (no needs) where almost all the english words are axed abruptly.

I reckon to Cheers Mate ..Reckon and Cheers are the typical Aussie words , don't be surprised if an essay of 300 words consists of 100 reckons and ends with a Cheers Mate. Pretty infectious words as they seem to have carried across to the kiwis as well.

If you don't know something say Nigaa....igaa....nigaa.... atleast half the Mainlanders (people belong to mainland, though this is a common word used by the Cantonese (people from hongkong) i came across over the last couple of years use this word which really doesn't have any meaning. Not sure if this is a common across the ABC's (American Born Chinese) as well.

The Siamese (Thai) have wonderful cuisines but can never get hold of the most complicated full names that i came across. The simplest word i could get was Ma..means policeman so important with all that ruckus that Bangkok has been ever since the PM was ousted in a scandal.

Don't think i would ever want to comment on the aggressive mixed breed super power nation with the F*** word most commonly used.

Need i say more with the diversity we have in Indian slangs, though the best is illadaa...(whether you know or don't know this will be the first word to be used by my neighbors :) no wonder we used to call them illads

Beijing Bites!!!

How many of us had the opportunity to give ourselves a name post-natal stage? You might have always wondered why do i have the legacy of my family names embossed making your name big, though friends might call you with the so called "pet name", we don't really use it officially or do we dare to? Well the average well educated Chinese whose mandarin names are already shorter and easier to remember unlike the "thai" names they do have the flexibility to give an English name, well that sounds really cool to me. Of course when a guy likes monkey names himself as monkey, a girl an Apple, a woman Angelina, that calls for a traveler like me to notice. They do apply the logic to their chinese name - First name followed by family , and they choose an English name which sounds like their first name. Not only that the mainland gives the visitors a Chinese name too...They named me "Ye Wei Jie ", looks they applied the same logic. My recent visit to Beijing is one of the best travels abroad not just because of i hiked "The Great Wall of China" , but because i got to know the pulse of the Chinese culture to a certain extent. Having traveled to good number of places around the globe, i think "We Asians" are very good at hospitality and Chinese are no exception to this, and no wonder i am uncomfortable visiting the west. There are few things i have to mention about my travel, First the food, i had an impression the Chinese food is very difficult and the strange aromas gave me a nauseating feeling when i was in hongkong, however i realized it depends on what kind of restaurant you end up in. And fortunately because of David Wang ( My Colleague, and Good friend) i was able to have the best of the Chinese cuisines. I pretty much tried most of the interesting stuff barring pork and beef though most of the places you end up getting only these two, thanks to David who made sure i always got excluding this, that's what i say it depends on what place you are eating at and whom do you go out with. My favorite on any given day would definitely be the Sichuan cuisine though there is grotesque mis representation as Shezwan in India. You also get to see some strange dishes like this one. Most of the English translations sound bit funny.

Leaving the fun side, i think the infrastructure in Beijing is something commendable, imagine an n level flyover with vast lanes connecting some n ring roads, and those huge buildings in the down town with numerous huge malls which are filled with all the damn brands on earth is something i couldn't even think of. I guess this development is not just restricted to the provinces Beijing, shanghai or xinjiang but to the remote places as well, no wonder almost all the provinces are well connected by road, air and rail. Though you could see every car vendor (there are about 4 MN cars in Beijing almost the population of sydney) , they account to the biggest jam hiccups where you get stranded on the roads for eternity, no wonder half of the 10MN population opts the subway which is well connected and saves good time but is always crowded, nevertheless enjoyable.

One of the important things that Beijing withholds is its traditions and culture reflecting the various eras that it has been through and this is pretty much visible if you visit the Tinamen, Tinamen Square, The old City, The Forbidden city which are located right at the center of Beijing and ofcourse the Winter Place and the Summer Palace where you are enthralled by the beauty of the Huge Palaces, and also the lake across the palce which is frozen at this point of time where are you can pretty much walk on most parts is something to be expereinced. And how can i forget the Great wall at Badaling and The Ming Tombs which gives you an insight into the History of the Mainland and the visit indeed refreshed my memory of the dynasties i studied in school (The Qin Dynasty, Jin Dynasty, Tang and Ming Dynasties to mention a few ) .

Though the Modern China is about tall towers and vast 8 lane roads, the old culture is pretty persistent in every beijinger's Mind and they still like the Dragon (The Emperor) and The Phoneix (The Empress). I think they adapt the technology from the west pretty fast and put it in practice very quickly which is why its such a fast growing economy. Though they speak pretty fast and loud chinese which hard to comprehend from their actions, they have good writing and reading skills of English but poor at listening and i think the new generation is filling the gap and sure to take on the world some time soon. For Instance, Tinamen @ Nite.
The Beijing Olympic Center or the Birds Nest , the stadium is marvellous and if you have witnessed the olympics i don't think no other country in the world can repeat such a feat. Though i would like to key stroke few more thoughts i would like to conlcude with some shopping tips for the shopaholics who might land up at the silk street where you can find the Mix of Fake and the Real Brands and you get pretty much every damn Bag / Clothes- so much of variety for women / watches / electronics / what not...one simple tip start with 20% and walk away if you don't like the price (period).
Here are some of those wonder ful moments captured and i think i should mention about David Wang, without him this travel wouldn't have been so successful and memorable.
The Forbiddedn City.
The Great Wall @ BadaLing

Xie Xie (Thanks) David...

Year Ender...

In a few days its dawn for the year 2009, and when i look back and think how do you want 2008 to be remembered as? Putting aside all the national/international stories aside from a personal perspective , i will remember it as an year which allowed my passport to be filled with a sizable number of visas, the amount of carbon footprint that i would have accumulated making myself not being a "carborexic" to any extent , the of miles i have gathered on my frequent flier cards and in short it would have been a 1and half trip round the globe. Indeed this year has been the "Year of Travel with one abroad trip a month", just looking back i almost spent close to a month in the Boeing's and the Airbuses, another 3-4 months in the ***** hotels, and wouldn't really want to know amount of expenditure incurred to the company. However if there is one significant thing i have achieved out of this constant hops across the continents it would be different kinds of people i got to know across the globe. Like i always keep emphaisizing every person is unique and we should appreciate this unique differences, only than you would get to know a person of similar or a different culture to a certain extent. Now i am pretty much acuqainted with the different APAC cultures, atleast have the knowledge of identifying a chinese, koran, japanese, malay and a singaporean, to certian extent from looks and to a greater extent in the way the speak. During the process of my travel and my interaction with these different people i have got to know lot of things, exhchanged lot of things about the indian culture, traditions. One thing i keep encountring again and again is the whole concept of Arranged marriages which ia quite amusing to most of the people around the globe and i think this is one talk you can keep everybody engaging for a quite a long duration and get the conversation going and extend to different other aspects. Proabably thats a kind of a strategy i have employed in most of my travels and probably the recent development is about terrorism and recession . Well with the year end around the corner i think i don't have much to contemplate about, and its been more of a travel and passive focus on the things that i would have wanted to be associated with but have not regrets. Atleast this year i have made sure that i spend as much time with the people around me who really matter the most , and also not to forget those good old pals and put an effort to be in touch in every way i could. I would have visted most of the countries, have been to the most beautiful places, spent a good time alone, but above all this the trip i had with my college pals recently is something refreshing this year as it brought back the good time i have had and felt nostalgic about my days in Pilani. Well i hope maintain the same in the years to come until than "Hum hain rahen pyar kee..phir milenge.. chalte chalte..." And as i am signing of this years last blog i am off to another Trip..Indeed i am the Traveller of the Year :)

My Blog's Personality : ESTP

While catching up with few regular blogs i came across this Typealyzer website which apparently describes your style of writing. I thought i would give it a go and was quite bedazzled with the response. It says ESTP: The Doers Type. Well they are the active and play-ful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities. The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time. Well i am not sure how much of it is true as it is a complete contrast to my Personality type which i took with the Myers-Briggs a few years back and year on year the repeated tests have shown consistency in my type and as a matter of fact they represent my personality type to a greater extent in reality. Well let us give typealyzer some time to analyze the patterns of writing skills and let us pray it gives apt results. Otherwise we might end up with world full of Dissociative Personality disorder :)

bumptop next generation interface?

Over the last year or so having been associated with technology very closely something that my work demands and slowly this is something i though need to be shared with others as well; might be repetitive but this is something i wouldn't give my opinion about but would at least want people to know about these so called uncanny stuff. Bumptop a very cool software rather than words probably this video is does more justice. Will it be the interface for the future well we have to wait and watch...

How Starbucks saved my life!

Having been restricted to the indoors with the unfortunate events in bangalore which otherwise would have been a busy weekend , this book "How Starbucks saved my life" did indeed help me to get pass the sunday !. I won't put this book in the extraordinary category neither in the ordinary category but would suggest a good read for its simple narration no wonder Tom Hanks grabbed the opportunity to show case it on the celluloid. After reading this 250 odd pages you get a feel that Starbucks (Where you are a star and make a few bucks at the same time) is one of the best places to work. In other words "Corporate America" sucks or its like working in a concentration camp. While this book will not teach anything new it is a compelling and thought provoking reminder that in all things in life we are to seek the opportunity to express gratitude.Michael Gates Gill was entertaining and candid it is refreshing to see someone get the second chance that we all need at some point in life. I thoroughly enjoyed following the author's journey as he starts his entirely new career and the way the story has been told with frequent traverses to the past and the present. His uneasiness at the cash register, his admiration for his young boss, his eventual love for his coworkers, his pride and improved quality of life compared to his previous executive jobs are all richly detailed and sympathetic. Though the style may occasionally be awkward, the book is always warm and enjoyable. I felt the work culture amongst the star buck baristas is something commendable and makes you realize they are one single family making it certain little coffee store on every block of every street gives us a little more than that needed triple shot lattes. In short its not how grossly rich you are but how happy you are with the people around you and what is that you can share with people around ? of course happiness .

Copy from one, it's plagiarism; copy from two, it's research

Well i pliagrised this title from Wilson Mizner's quotes and the same is relevant in any industry. Techies copy code from various sources on the internet with their universal source being "Google" and the same is relevant with our bollywood music directors. I have no issues with this plagiarisms as long as we give due respect to the original source showing some sense of ethics. When i first heard "bheegi bheegi" song i was sure this was lifted from some Bengali song which i heard a couple of years back in one of the pubs. But i never knew most of the songs given by this music director were probably manipulated from different original sources. I did a small research on the original songs and they seem to have existed even the new numbers had come out. Well whether its been his own creation or its been lifted he has reached to a wider audience but would have appreciated if he has give due credit to the original authors.

This is the bengali song i was talking about :

Oppose if you are an opposition!

Having close interest in the politics of India which was one of my child hood dreams to enter into, i had been following the trust motions, the pre-polling analysis, exit polls be it a state election or general election and also catch up on the LS/RS sessions once in a while. Everybody is talking of the recent "Singh is King" trust motion which apparently a sham ! Well i do remember studying my history books about our Indian democracy supposedly the largest in the world and the most vibrant one has infact been in doldrums for quite few years with grotesque discussions at times and i feel we are still an evolving nation where we get to hear very good debates concerning the nation at large. Infact the recent trust motion discussions had very good speeches where the young politicians who are more concerned on the national interest than of their political parties. However I do have my apathy with the opposition parties (be it any) as over the years they have been there as they are there and oppose every bill being passed as they are termed as "opposition". Well does opposition really mean they have to oppose every damn thing even without a discussion? Can't we work together as a team in the larger interests of the public? I felt really bad when our beloved prime minister who is the most knowledgeable person and puts in so much of hard work in every decision he takes ,was not given an opportunity by the opposition to deliver his speech. Though the entire trust motion was based up on the nuclear deal which i am sure most of the parliament members aren't aware of had never raised a point of discussion on the same. The saffron party says they would want to re-negotiate the deal but want to join hands with the communists who are against the deal as they would never want to India to overtake China in any means as they were and will always be the torch bearers for the neigbouring country's growth but not of their own. Do they understand that china's whose entire electricity is driven from the coal industry has already begun the process of generating energy via the nuclear power and is going to scale up enormously by the year 2050 whereas we in india are yet to go through the clearances and make it operationalize. As long as the deal is implemented as it is supposed to be and is not going to be another BOFORS scam for this government i am happy the present government won the vote of trust. Probably its high time the netas in the opposition think more sensibly and contribute to the growth than merely opposing every thing that comes in the parliaments way as after all they are in the "opposition" and if they don't make a hue and cry which media channel going to project them? May be every political party has their own ideologies and philosophies but if they introspect on why it has been formed and realize the foundation for every party is the common cause - welfare of the nation that day every citizen of this country would start appreciating their political leaders, until than the people of India will always be in the "opposition". Atleast i am happy that i am in an age where i could see few future leaders coming out of this cloud and want to work towards a common vision. As Rahul Gandhi says "Rather than thinking how the world is impacting us, if we start thinking how we are going to impact the world" we are definitely moving in a better direction and i hope this future leader is going to live up his expectations than flowing with the tide and just be another inherited political party leader.

Dard - E- Movie!

I was reading this article on "Dard-E-Disco" from the OSO movie which apparently the author feels "if it is the dance of pain, the pain in one’s joints when you dance, or the pain of watching anyone do disco dancing?". Well i had a similar experience watching a Telugu movie making the title for this post apt! What do you expect when you miss your breakfast and lunch to catch up a movie on a Sunday afternoon ? Definitely not being entertained and ending up with a headache! And imagine taking your friend along with you and making her go through the same experience. Probably i had faltered in the thought that this one has been running for quite some time with good crowd turn out ratio. In retrospect there is a no regret for having shelled out some bucks on a weekend for a movie but would definitely reckon on the time, conspicuously when there is more than one person involved to account the time factor as i strongly believe in giving respect to other's time. No wonder this one gives me so much of Dard!

I wish i too could fall in Love!

I couldn't stop writing this after watching this simple, a closely realistic movie to connect with where you could sense that these kind of things happen around you and yet you never notice it. A simple script, apt characters and good music is a key success to any romantic movie. If you ask me what is the plot in the movie well i don't think i can spell it out as there isn't any, however the movie kept me engaged in spite of no story with in till i walk out of the movie of course feeling refreshed. There are lots of impressive moments in the movie that has impressed me for instance where the heroine drops all her friends late night exhibiting the tomboyishness :) or the song "pappu can't dance" where your friends come up with all those dance steps just to have fun where many a times i tried out in the cast parties i have had or the the guy drinking coke on rocks or the song which revolving on the name of the character (Kabhi kabhi Aditi zindagi ...).

Being not so complex with simple sequence of events which actually we encounter in our daily life makes "jaane tu jaane na" every person who can connect in one way or the other either events that you might have been through or you be going through.

However it did raise my eye brows pondering can a boy and girl who are best friends can never actually continue the same relationship? Do they eventually have to tie the knot take the relationship as that is one institution which has the utmost respect than any other relationship.

Probably thats one reason why i am cogitative about the title for this post or to put as the song goes in the movie "dil ki yahi khataa hai, dil ko nahin pataa hai, ki dil chahta hai kya..."

Catharsis!!!

It has been hectic international travels ever since the the year started. If it was Belgium in January , February - March was destined to singapore while April had pie of Honkong & Taiwan. And all travels had one thing in common "ALONE all the way" . While i had my own perception of being alone like many others of the same type as we are together in that too !!! At times this lonliness gets on to your nerves especially when you are in the hotel room and contemplating on what to eat or missing out the long distance calls, however it has a kick ass times too!! As this allows me to reach out to new people, new culture , check out different stuff be it food or places. If i take few leaves out of my journey there is lot that can be mined and i am sure this is one is definitely useful if i get into the bureaucratic or political line of business , though originally had the intent but didn't seem to materialize at all!. The intent with which you absorb things around you is greatly dependent on how has been the individuals environment in his formative years or even during his educational/ professional / volunteer stints. Thats why i say my neurons have a valuable information which if properly mined can actually replace an "ED" to "ING" with regards to devlopment of the economy is concerned! As one thing thats keeps me bugging evertime i visit these countries the way these countries have leapt while we were all the same when the civilization has begun. I don't regret with what the situation we have today as we have had made a good progress walking while others running (as we always believed it better to stand up and drink water than to run for the milk) but we could have been much better than today. With the rising inflation where every nation is feeling the heat i am not sure where we are heading towards as things can only get worse from here and we are still in the "ing" stage while others can relatively cope up with the situation. But are we content with being better off when compared to few counterparts? I always felt we could be much better as the places i have been had a common feeling that the Indians are intelligent, hard working and humble probably true for majority of the pool and yet these so called adjectivites are helping in the growth of most of the counters parts - the so called brain drain that has been happening over the years and is bound to happen in coming years, who if had been effectively retained and efficiently utilized, this place would have been definitely a better place. For a place to be termed "better" than being content with saying "good" we needed visionaries who transform things for the betterment of the public than to top the chart busters in the Forbes List!. Every time we are vowed by the infrastructure among these small countries but why could we achieve only in small pockets? Why are today there are places in India where commutation is a problem? why are few villages still devoid of electricity? Do we blame the government? Or the people who made the government? Or the bueracrats ? We have the world's richest persons yet we have the poor becoming more poor? We have a million plus organizations working for the underpriviliged in india and their lives are as worse as they could be yet we could do nothing? Are we so self centered in our approach as we worried about only self and to a certain extent to our family only? Do we have actually time to think about others than blaming the concerned who have to improve the lives of these? Do we have a solution to make this the best place to live ? May be yes or may be not. May be we are just happy with the way things are and don't want to come out of the stereotypes. Well these are few of the many random thoughts that keeps my mind tickling when away from my place and instead of letting them through some piece of art or music i am using this medium though not sure if the "title" really makes sense for they are the random emotions always trying to bulge out of my Brain!

PS: I realized i left this post in the edit mode for more than a month! Not sure how many are still under the wraps!
